Baotu Spring Scenic Area

Baotu Spring Park is located in the bustling center of Jinan City. It leans against Qianfo Mountain to the south, backs onto Daming Lake Scenic Area to the north, and connects with Quancheng Square to the east. It is a unique garden themed around springs. Baotu Spring, honored as "the Number One Spring under Heaven", ranks first among the "Seventy - two Famous Springs" in Jinan and has a history of more than 2,000 years. It has also appeared in many literary works, and a representative one is "Baotu Spring" written by Lao She. Tourists come here to witness the magnificent scene of the three - stream eruption of Baotu Spring.

Baotu Spring is the main attraction in the park. The spring water gushes out in three streams, clear and pure, surging day and night. When the water is abundant, it can reach several feet high. There are large stones paved around the spring, surrounded by railings. Visitors can overlook the wonderful sight of the three - spring eruption in the pool from the railing. There is a stone stele beside the spring, inscribed with "The First Spring". The stele is dark green in color and was inscribed by Wang Zhonglin from Licheng during the Tongzhi reign of the Qing Dynasty. In addition, more than thirty famous springs, such as Jinxian Spring, Shuyu Spring, Xibo Spring, Liuxu Spring, Huanghua Spring, Dukang Spring, and Bailong Spring, are scattered near Baotu Spring, forming the Baotu Spring Group. Since there is relatively more rain in July and August, this is a good season to visit the springs.

During the midsummer, tourists can have an intimate contact with the spring water in the park. Some springs have no railings around them. There are stone paths in the pools, and the spring water flows over the paths. Tourists can step into the pools to get close to the water. Walking on the stone paths, their insteps will be wetted by the spring water, bringing a cool feeling. Besides getting close to the water, there is free spring water for tourists to drink directly beside Baotu Spring. On the east side of the spring, there is Wangheting Teahouse, which provides tourists with fragrant tea brewed with Baotu Spring water at a moderate price.

Apart from the springs, another sight worth seeing in the park is the south gate of the park. It is decorated magnificently and gracefully. The horizontal plaque on the gate, "Baotu Spring", with gold characters on a blue background, is the imperial handwriting of Emperor Qianlong of the Qing Dynasty, and is hailed as "the Number One Gate" of Chinese gardens.

In previous years, Baotu Spring often stopped spraying seasonally. However, after several years of protection, its water level has basically returned to normal. In addition, Baotu Spring Park often holds various cultural activities. On the first day of the first lunar month every year, a lantern festival is held in the park, lasting for 20 days. Around late September every year, there is the Baotu Spring Water Culture Festival, lasting about 10 days. During this time, there will be various folk activities, calligraphy and painting exhibitions, and opera performances for tourists to enjoy. From the end of October to the end of November every year, a chrysanthemum exhibition is held in the park. In the golden autumn, numerous springs gush out, and the chrysanthemums and the spring water set off each other, which is really worth seeing.

In addition, Baotu Spring Scenic Area has launched a cruise route. After visiting Baotu Spring Scenic Area, if tourists are interested, they can board a ship at the Baotu Spring boat dock, sail through Ximen Bridge in the old urban area of Jinan, pass by the east gate of Wulongtan Park, and enter Wulongtan Ship Lock, the first passenger ship lock in the history of Jinan. During this journey, they can experience a drop of more than 2 meters. Sitting on the east side of the ship, they can also see the reliefs of the "Eight Sights of Jinan". There are many aquatic plants along the bank, and the river water is crystal - clear. The cruise ship finally passes through Yanbo Bridge and enters Daming Lake Scenic Area.
